Creating a Rainbow
Children may learn in elementary school art classes that the primary colors are red, blue and yellow, but understanding what this truly means goes way beyond simply memorizing this fact. With the Pinch and Mix Classroom Kit from Steve Spangler Science, children of ages four and above can work with real primary colors and mix them up to directly see the effects. The Pinch and Mix Goo comes in red, blue and yellow, and when the students squirt the colors into a zipper-lock bag, they can mix the primary colors to create beautiful secondary colors in a variety of combinations. This activity allows them to get a tangible feeling for how much of a primary color to add to another to get a certain desired shade. Not only does this teach them about primary and secondary colors, but it may also bring out the artist in them as well.
