Armed with a powerful magnet and lots of curiosity, discover and then explore the metallic iron in iron-fortified cereal. Test it dry, float it on water and make cereal soup to see first-hand the metal you're eating. Kit comes complete with science fair tips and experiments.
It all starts with, "I wonder why?" or, "How come?" or, "What if?" A small wonder and a little exploration can lead to big discoveries! Great ideas and outstanding questions often arise out of doing another experiment. All of the Science Fair Solutions kits help you to learn how to think like a scientist and use the scientific method. Remember, the first step to getting the answer is wondering about the question. Recommended for children ages 4 and up.

What Does It Teach?
Science Fair Connection:
A good science fair experiment must include a variable, or something that changes in the experiment. If you are only trying to find iron in one type of cereal, you don't have a variable. You are merely demonstrating that the cereal contains iron.
- Use different cereals and follow the same procedure as above to see which cereal contains the most iron.
- Does the type of liquid you use affect how much iron you find?
Be sure to change only one thing in your tests so that you standardize the conditions as much as possible and isolate the variable, which is the brand of cereal or type of liquid. Document your results and get ready to share your discoveries at the science fair.

Had to use a stronger magnet to get the best results, but the concept was awesome! (Posted on 5/31/13)

Love the idea of this for the classroom. However, the magnet that comes with the kit is useless so I don't know why it is even included. Had I known the ceral boxes were so small I would have skipped the kit and bought my own Total and Kellog cereal-since I will need to do so because I have 40 students. Do buy the stronger magnet or nothing will work. I paid basically for instructions and two mini boxes of cereal-I would rather have had another strong magnet. (Posted on 5/31/13)
