With the unique Play & Freeze Ice Cream Maker, you can make ice cream anywhere! You don't need electricity, just add ice and rock salt in one end and ice cream mix in the other end-then have a ball as you shake it, pass it, shake it and roll it. After 20 minutes, the Play & Freeze Ice Cream Maker delivers 473 mL (a pint) of really great ice cream. So, the next time the kids scream for ice cream, they can have a ball making their own. Assorted colors. Recommended for children ages 4 and up.

What's included?

  • 1 Play and Freeze Ice Cream Maker in various colors

How does it work?

  1. Fill the ice end with as much ice as possible, then add rock salt.
  2. Mix up your ice cream ingredients in a container, then pour mix into the end with the metal cylinder.
  3. Have a ball! Shake, roll and pass it around as you mix and freeze the ingredients. You now have about a pint of delicious soft-serve ice cream. The consistency will vary based on the ice, your mix, the outside temperature, shaking frequency, etc. Once the ice cream is to the consistency of your liking, gently scoop it out and Enjoy!

The first two batches were very disappointing: coarse crystals in moosh. The third (using lots of extra ice prepared in advance) was better, but not as nice as our hand-turned Donvier (which uses no ice or salt) can produce, in less time. NOTE: demonstrators at the Pittsburgh PA children's science center said they hadn't had much luck with it either.
This gismo would be better than nothing on a camping trip --if plentiful ice was available.

Yummy

I loved making the ice cream! I underestimated how much ice I had in my freezer. So even with 1/3 the amount the ice that the directions called for I was able to make the ice cream just fine. It was a little difficult to get some of the ice cream off of the inside of the metal tube. I sealed up the ice cream side and poured some hot water in the other side and it came right out. So much fun!
