These worked well for the experiments we needed them in.

Make ferromagnetic paste with bulk iron filings

I bought the 12 oz tubes of bulk iron filings to make a ferromagnetic past; that is, a paste containing metal filings that wowld be attracted by a magnet.

I used epoxy glue for the paste. After mixing about 1/2 oz. of the two part epoxy, I added about an equal amount by volume of the iron filings. The final mixture was then a "ferromagnetic glue". I could spread it onto any surface, and when hardened, a magnet will attract it.

This worked fairly well, but the iron filings are coarse so the hardened paste can be rough.

I planned on applying the paste to bottom of game board pieces and use thin magnetic sheet for the actual game board.

What can I say - they're iron filings.
