This kit offers all the materials you need to create your own designer t-shirt, lab coat, pants, hats, canvas shoes or whatever you like! It looks like tie dye, but it's not messy! Included are detailed instructions and creative ideas for both kids and adults. Finally, chemistry makes a fashion statement! Recommended for children ages 6 and up.

What's included?

  • 6 Sharpie pens (red, blue, green, yellow, orange and purple)
  • Dropper bottle
  • Activity guide

How does it work?

Create a simple design of dots and lines with different colored Sharpie® pens directly on your t-shirt or whatever item you choose. Using a special dropper bottle, drip rubbing alcohol carefully on the design and let chemistry do it's work. The colors explode before your eyes!

What does it teach?

Experiment with the chemistry used to create colorful fabrics, while expressing your creative whims! Learn all about colors and what happens when they mix and run through material fibers.

We did our own version of this experiment for my daughter's 8th birthday party. We decorated pillow cases and at the end I used iron on transfers to put each kid's name on their work of art.

The kids came up with some really great designs!

I was looking for a fun way for our Girl Scouts to earn a science badge as well as prepare for an upcoming camping trip. Since the girls had to have a bandana, we used white bandana purchased at a local craft store (tip: make sure that the bandana does not have a lot of finishing resin on it-should not feel too "stiff"). It was a huge hit and a great way to talk about science.

I have done this twice with my class and had great results. The kids really loved it. Everyone was successful and each shirt was unique. We had some awesome looking tshirts!

I used this kit yesterday with my two year old. Yes, I was nervous at first, but it turned out to be a blast. He loved drawing on the t-shirt and seeing the colors spread and mix together. What a fun tool to teach colors and coloring mixing. Can't wait to use this shirt for field trips. He will stand out in a crowd, that's for sure!

Okay, I have to admit, when I opened the package it did not look that impressive. But as soon as I started trying it out and attempting different patterns I got hooked! This kit is so engaging and fun, it had me really wondering what starting patterns would produce what results and then testing it. That is thinking like a scientists that even little kids can do! And my shirt was so beautiful when I was done. I totally recommend this kit to everyone.

I just wanted to let you know that an experiment I got on tye dying with permanent markers saved my beige carpet. I am a second grade teacher and I just started receiving your emails this year...I was home this past weekend...painting my toenails (after a very loooonng winter) and I accidentally spilled some pink nail polish on my beige carpet!!! I was frantic. I tried some nail polish remover, but I didn't have much of it (and it was already tinted) it was in one of those nail polish removing tubs...and I didn't have much luck. Then I remembered the tie dye experiment with markers. I thought if the rubbing alcohol could dissipate the permanent markers, it might work for the nail polish... and TA DA...it worked!! You can't even tell there was a spill. Thank you so much
