Here’s What You Need...

Tips and Planning:

When you send out your party invitations make sure that parents know that their children might get a little messy... or maybe a LOT messy! Suggest that guests wear clothes that they don’t mind getting dirty. Before your guests arrive, make sure that your polymers are grown and all of your materials are set-up.

Hydrating Polymers

Your growing polymer products (Clear Spheres and Water Jelly Crystals) will take a little extra time to grow. You will probably want to have some dry polymers on the tables for the children to discover, but many of the activities will require that the polymers are already hydrated, prior to your guests arriving. Follow the “growing” instructions included with your products for the best results.

Yuck! Science Fun!Clear Spheres

As your guests are entering the “party zone,” a great way to introduce them to the theme is by having everyone put their hand in a bowl of Clear Spheres. The kids won’t know what to do when they reach in and feel a bowl of slimy “eyeballs!” In order to have your Clear Spheres ready in time for the party by “growing” them at least 24-48 hours before your guests are set to arrive.

Once you've had fun with your guests, explain the chemistry behind these "eyeball" polymers. Each child can even take a portion home in a zipper-lock bag.

Water Gel

Water Gel is a great way to get your ooey, gooey birthday party started. Water Gel makes a great demonstration... all you need it a cup, some gel powder, water and an unsuspecting guest’s head. Your Water Gel activity guide will provide all the details.

Water Jelly Crystals

One of the best ways to explore with Water Jelly Crystals is by creating a Rainbow Tube that each guest can take home with them. You will need to grow your crystals for at least 3-4 hours before guests arrive so that they are hydrated and ready to go in the tubes. The activity guides provided with your crystals will have all the details for making the perfect rainbow tube.

Insta-Worms and Slime

Each of these activities is self-contained and lots of fun. You may, however, want to set up the necessary materials for each child prior to the party. Each child can decide what color they want to make their Clear Slime by choosing a Color Mixing tablet (or combination of tablets). Your activity guide will provide all the details.

Lots of other things can be added to both Slime and Insta-Worms to create a whole new experience. Try adding hydrated Water Jelly Crystals to Slime to make a perfect batch of boogers and snot (EWWW) or vomit (YUCK!). Also, Pearl Swirl can be added to either Worms or Slime to make a metallic Worms, or pearlescent Slime.

More Ooey Gooey Fun...

Once your party-goers are icky, sticky and gross... pull out the classic Oobleck Cornstarch and Water Walk. Check out our Cornstarch Science - Quicksand Goo and Non-Newtonian Glop experiments for the low-down and perfect mixing proportions on this ooey, gooey treat. Then watch what happens when you mix 2,500 pounds of cornstarch, 250 gallons of water, a giant cement truck and Ellen DeGeneres.

Spend some time concocting the perfect batch of Oobleck before your party, then when guests are ready, they will be amazed to see they can (almost) walk on water!

If you need additional activities for your party, try our Yuck Kit for the ultimate ooey, gooey experience. The Yuck Kit will provide everything you need to make worm guts, yuck crystals, growing bacteria and more!

More Info:

The activity guides in each of your kits will provide everything you need to know about your Ooey Gooey items, but for some amazing literature connections to use at your party, try reading Diary of a Worm by Doreen Cronin, Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss or the best-selling G.E.M.S. book Oobleck.

Party Favors:

Each child will be able to take home their own portion of Clear Spheres, Water Jelly Crystals, Slime, Worms and a Rainbow Tube. You may also want to consider thefollowing products as party favors:

How Much Do I Need?

Clear Spheres: Clear Spheres are available in individual color mixing kits with enough Spheres and materials for one child or in 40 gram packages. One 40 gram package should be plenty for 30-35 children. You can also get additional Mini-mixing trays, pipettes, coloring tablets and Baby Soda Bottles for the activities in the Clear Sphere Kit.

Water Jelly Crystals:
These crystals come in lots of different package sizes. You can purchase clear or colored crystals. If you plan on making Rainbow Tubes you can get individual rainbow test tubes for each child with 3 grams of colored crystals and one Baby Soda Bottle. If you would prefer to buy the materials separately, our four-pack of crystals includes 40 grams of each color and 40 grams of clear crystals, which is be enough crystals for about 14 children. Larger packages of both colored and clear crystals are available, just plan on about 3 grams of each color crystal per child. You can also buy Baby Soda Bottles in bulk packages from 15 to 120 depending on how many children you have at your party.

Insta-Worms: Our Insta-Worms kit will make enough Worms for 20 children.

Slime Kit: Our Clear Slime comes with enough materials for 20 kids. We also sell Green Slime and Atomic Slime, which also provide enough materials for 20 children.

Shaker Cups and Lids:
If you choose to use the “Shaker Cup” method for mixing your slime, you will need one cup and lid per guest. If you would rather use cups, we suggest one cup with a stirring stick per child, along with a zipper-lock bag for the children to take home their Slime portion.

Pearl Swirl: Our Pearl Swirl is a highly concentrated fluid that will make up to 8 Liters (2 gallons) of fluid.

True Colors Color Mixing tablets:
These non-staining coloring tablets come in packages of 100. Each of the Ooey Gooey activities should require one tablet per child, for a total of 8-10 tablets per child.
