What Does It Teach?

Cubes That Will Surprise Them
Young scientists will be in for a surprise when they see the Superabsorbent Polymer Water Cubes from Steve Spangler Science change size right before their eyes. Put the tiny polymer cubes in water, and they grow to over 200 times their original size. Try to get the children to guess how many cubes are in a glass or container and the growing cubes will fool them every time. Take the cubes out of the water and let them sit, and they shrink back to their original size and can then be used again. The gel cubes can even be measured at different time intervals to see how fast they grow, giving young scientists the opportunity to use both science and math in the same experiment.
