Product Description

From levitation to airplanes flying miles above the Earth’s surface, magicians and scientists alike have made countless efforts at defying gravity. Even Steve Spangler likes to toss his hat into “gravitational defiance.” With Newton’s Beads, you’ll learn how you can use physics like inertia and potential energy to empty 50 feet of science gravity beads onto the floor in about five seconds or 250 feet of beads in about 30 seconds! We know what you’re thinking, “Dumping the beads onto the floor is proof of gravity. It doesn’t defy it.” You’re right, but these science gravity beads pour onto the floor while you still hold their container upright. It seems impossible, but Newton’s Beads will make you a believer in the time it takes for them to stream to the floor.

It’s all part of the demonstration that makes science lessons about gravity, inertia, and energy easier to understand for students. With our inertia beads, you’ll be able to provide a concrete example of science principles young learners sometimes struggle to understand, and you’ll have fun doing it! Newton’s Beads are an engaging way to solidify key concepts that kids will want to test out for themselves!

Newton’s Beads – What’s Included?

  • 50 feet of colorful Newton’s Beads
  • 600 mL Plastic Beaker
  • Activity Guide

How Does It Work?

The setup and performance of the Newton’s Beads demonstration is easy and quick. Simply give one end of the science gravity beads a tug and watch as they cascade over the side of your container. Set it up again, and see if your students can alter the results of your cascading inertia beads.

What Does It Teach?

Newton’s Beads are a fantastic and colorful introduction to physics. From inertia and potential energy to gravity and acceleration, Newton’s Beads will open scientific doors in a quick, easy, and spectacular demonstration. This easy science experiment will help provide a foundational understanding of physics that students will carry with them for the rest of their educational journey. Bring science gravity beads into your classroom, and make physics even more engaging!

    Fantastic demo

My students cannot get enough of this. They would do all day if someone else would put the beads back in the bucket. It is a great demonstration of Newton’s first law of inertia.

    Doesn't get old

We have played with this over and over!! Everyone loves this. Sometimes the beads get tangled which is annoying, but it’s worth it to untangle them when it happens.

Doesn't do what it's supposed to do

If you’ve seen the videos of beads jumping out of the container be warned — these don’t do that. They just spill out on the floor.SSS promptly offered to process a refund but I’d have to pay for shipping — again and take time off work to ship it. That’s throwing good money after bad.Learn from my mistake. Save time, money and hassle — don’t order these.

    Really fun

These worked really well and a great demo of Newton’s law of inertia. The beads do get a little tangled once in a while but not a big deal.

Monica – Thanks for the comment – the Newton’s Beads are extremely fun and teach a great lesson. With any long strand of beads you might get them tangled every so often. Have fun with the activity.

  5. Question

    Richard Nelson

Is the up-then-down “loop” increased if the fall is higher.
Is it possible/practical to collect the beads in another cup?
