You Won’t Believe Your Eyes!
These Jelly Marbles become invisible when submerged in water but grow almost 7 times their size!
Just add water to our Jelly Marbles, and discover the magic! Place these tiny, solid polymer balls in water, and in just a little while you will have your own Jelly Marbles that absorbed over 150 times their weight in water. These superabsorbent water marbles are the newest craze around the Spangler Science offices! What starts out as a 3mm water-absorbing bead, quickly becomes an approximately 20mm ball of jelly! Similar to our Water Jelly Crystals, these clear water beads absorb a lot of water, and they maintain their spherical shape when they are done growing. Our water-absorbing beads are fun, fascinating to watch, and teach a valuable lesson about the science and power of polymers.
Jelly Marbles are an example of amazing hydrogels
Hydrogels are superabsorbent polymers that are saving the environment. Whether you think they look like water marbles, clear water beads, or gel spheres, you’ll want to get your hands on these squishy, water-filled Jelly Marbles. These clear water gel beads are fun to experiment with, and they make a great activity for kids and parents to explore together.
Adult supervision is required. While safe to play with, Jelly Marbles and similar polymer ball products should not be ingested.
What does it teach?
Like all of our fun and fascinating polymer, or hydrogel products, these clear water gel beads, teach a big lesson in color mixing, light refraction, and the importance these thirsty pebbles can play in maintaining a healthy environment. The possibilities for experimentation are endless when you drop these spheres in water.
Fun For Any Time of the Year, Especially Halloween!
Unsuspecting Trick-or-Treaters will be surprised when they place their hands in a bowl of ooey, gooey “eyeballs”! Perfect for any Halloween party!
Watch Them Grow To the Shape of One of Our Baby Soda Bottles
Your young scientists will be surprised to see that the Jelly Marbles maintain their spherical shape. Not only do these clear spheres absorb water, but they also absorb color to make them even more interesting!
Jelly Marbles are Reusable!
Steve Spangler’s Jelly Marbles can be used over and over again! Try drying them out to see how quickly evaporation can take over, and then drop them in water to watch them grow again and again! The included Activity Guide teaches you all the science behind this amazing polymer!
An Early Exposure to Environmental Science
Children who are exposed to the media every day are surely aware of all the current issues that there are involving the environment of planet Earth, and they may sometimes wonder if they’ll be able to contribute to protecting that environment. The Jelly Marbles – clear water beads experiment kit from Steve Spangler Science is a great way to show them that they can. These great Jelly Marbles are similar to the hydrogels that are used in environmental science to help crops survive during periods of drought and to prevent erosion by water runoff. The tiny polymer balls can absorb so much water that they grow dramatically in size right before children’s eyes. Eager, young scientists can also use the color-mixing tablets to see how the clear water marbles are able to absorb color. The activity guide that comes with the kit will get their creative juices flowing.

Bought these for my 10 yr old niece’s Science Birthday Party. The kids liked them but note they take a few hours (not really a little while) to get the full size. They don’t really provide that instant gratification kids this age look for. We wanted the kids to be able to be part of and for them to see the full experiment from beginning to end, so we put the beads in that morning before the party and had a test tube of how they started to explain to the kids about the process but I don’t think they had the same effect as the video my niece saw. Needless to say the kids enjoyed playing with them and had fun. Seemed the kids were more interested in the clear form than with coloring. They all wanted some beads to grow themselves. When we added Atomic Glow mix under a black light the kids loved it. This jar was more than enough and worth the price.
