How Do You Use an Energy Stick?

Thanks for the question. In order for an Energy Stick to work it would have to make a complete human connection (circle). You can add additional energy stick to the group but a full connection would have to be in place. It would make it louder, but only by the sound of the energy sticks included in the circle. My students had a riot with these. We not only demonstrated simple circuits but also conductors and insulators – the students had to predict what would happen if (for example) two people held a copper wire, a piece of rope, etc. between them. We got the whole class to join hands and demonstrated open and closed circuits. Great product.

Unfortunately, the batteries are not replaceable . On the plus side, it lasts for a LONG time and it’s amazing. It’s great to get families/kids in a big circle. We also extended the lesson by holding on the other hand plastic wires, metal wires, stripping down a telephone cable’s ends, water in a bowl, etc. for kids to guess whether or not the stick would still work.

Bought it for my second grader. She loves it and showed it to her science teacher who loved it so much that we bought one for her to use in class. The whole class joined in a ring and they tested almost everything in the room for conductivity. A teacher in the middle school fell in love with it so we bought her one. Teachers can’t afford them on their salaries so we are buying more for them. It got a lot of use and the battery hasn’t needed changing. But instructions on how to change it would be nice. But it is really fantastic.

I have used them with high school students who joined hands to complete the circuit; elementary students who were so excited to see this electricity application; and also with parents at Family Science Nights. Extend by adding an apple or a banana, and have everyone predict what will happen. I also took an energy stick with me when I attended a meeting to receive a grant. When I reached out to accept the check, I was holding the stick. I explained that part of the grant would provide materials such as the energy stick. Bought a box of 10 of these and 7 out of 10 have the polarity reversed! We tried to make a circuit with two of them, but it doesn’t work if oriented with the polarity in the proper way. This was confirmed with the use of a volt meter. How am I to teach the kids in my elementary STEAM class about polarity and positive and negative charges if the polarity is miss-marked? Oh well. Love them other than that. (I tried to leave this as a review, but it wouldn’t let me!)
