Large Plastic Test Tubes

These large test tubes are ideal for young scientists. They’re durable, water-tight and come with caps. These test tubes make it easy to safely conduct fun science experiments fun at home or in the classroom. It’s no wonder you can find Steve Spangler’s Large Plastic Test Tubes in classrooms around the world. Unlike breakable glass test tubes, you’ll rarely find yourself replacing these thick-walled plastic test tubes. They can be dropped, stepped on or thrown and they still won’t break. These test tubes are dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning.

Recommended for children ages 3 and up.

How Are These Test Tubes Created?

Our Large Plastic Test Tubes are also knows as Baby Soda Bottles because they’re made in a bottling plant. At the plant, the tubes are placed into a vacuum mold and heated so they soften. Hot air is then blown into the tube, stretching the warmed plastic to 40 times its original size. When the plastic cools into the shape of the mold, the bottle is ready to fill with a refreshing drink.

What Does It Teach?
Large Plastic Test Tubes will instantly become a staple of your classroom or household, no matter how old your scientist is. The thick plastic material is nearly unbreakable and makes the perfect sealable container for all kinds of materials and hands-on science experiments.

You’ll feel confident whether your kids are mixing solutions for a chemistry experiment or using the test tubes to examine items they gathered from the backyard because you’ll know the equipment is sturdy and safe.

Baby Soda Bottles

Our large plastic test tubes can be used to teach kids more things than you can imagine. Grow plants, observe critters, collect water samples, explore different densities, hydrate polymer crystals and mix all the colors you can find in a rainbow. The only limit to the possibilities for Large Plastic Test Tubes is imagination.

Baby Soda Bottles

Are They Indestructible?
For the most part, these test tubes are indestructible. We put some Large Plastic Test Tubes through rigorous testing including dishwashing, dropping and stomping, and they remained unharmed. The Large Plastic Test Tubes did not, however, survive when Drew treated one as a baseball and threw it at a brick wall at 90 miles per hour. The Large Plastic Test Tubes are also not fireproof and will melt under extreme heat.

Baby Soda Bottles

They Are Leak-Proof
In addition to being some of the sturdiest test tubes ever, Large Plastic Test Tubes are leak-proof. The included caps easily twist on and off, making the test tubes shakable and unbreakable, even with liquids inside. This is just one more thing to make you feel good about your kids using these in the classroom or at home.

 What’s Included?

  • Large Plastic Test Tubes can be purchased in packs of 30, 60 or 120; each tube comes with its own cap. You’ll also receive an Activity Guide with over 10 project ideas.

My students have used these for a variety of projects.*We have watched roots grow, *Made wave bottles with colored water and baby oil(it stays clear and is safer than lamp oil and smells better too)., and*Watched as white flowers turned whatever color we decided to put in the tube.My students can’t get enough of them and are always asking for tube experiments. They’re even great for Halloween parties. Everyone wants to be a mad scientist!

These racks work well with a group of six students for science experiments. However, the insert ends of the blue plastic guides are very thin and will snap off when disassembled.

Yes. These test tubes are actually preforms for 2 liter soda bottles–like you would find at the grocery store. There’s more information about it on this page: https://www.stevespanglerscience.com/lab/experiments/baby-soda-bottle/

I have used these for years now as holders for small items. My wife found her sewing machine bobbins fit neatly in the tube.

So Many Fun Ideas to Use Baby Soda Bottles

    julie ross

We have used the science baby soda bottles for a lot of fun activities. We used them recently for our Juniors in highschool to make time calpsules and they wrote letters to themselves which they can open at the end of the senior highschool year. They can be decorated with permanent sharpie markers and curly ribbon.
We also used them for MOPS- Mothers of Preschoolers

    Science party lava lamps

    Amanda

I bought these for my sons 7th birthday party which was a science theme party. The kids made lava lamps with them and it was such a big hit. The party was great and the kids thought it was so great that they got to take them home with them.

These are really nice test tubes with screw-on lids. I’m not sure why Spangler calls them baby soda bottles, they’re really test tubes! Either way, they are very thick and sturdy. They can be used for A LOT of science activities – in fact, they come with a BIG list of ideas! I used them most recently to make glow lava lamps at my son’s 9th Birthday party. I got the idea from this web site. I also used them to make space wands at a 3-year old Buzz Loghtyear party (we filled them with blue water, vegetable oil, various beads, glitter, and small plastic space ships.) Once the lid is on, little ones can shake, drop, and beat these tubes and they won’t break!

    Baby Soda Bottles are great!

    Lynda Kennepp

We ordered these for my daughter’s birthday as part of a CSI Themed party. They are great! Size is fun and we were able to not only use them for the experiment, but we could also fill them with candy to place in their favor boxes. Kids loved them! I included some experiment instructions in each favor box, so they could take them home and enjoy them!
