Good Morning America Now Steve Spangler explains the 4-H National Science Experiment

As part of the 4-H National Youth Science Day, Steve Spangler made a visit to ABC's Good Morning America Now the first week of October, 2008.

Developed by Steve Spangler and his team of experts, the National Science Experiment teaches kids about hydrogels and the role that these polymers play in conservation. A hydrogel is a superabsorbent material that grabs on to water molecules very quickly and soaks them up. Hydrogels have many common uses, including the material that is found inside of baby diapers.

Hydrogels come in many different forms. Steve and two 4-H members demonstrated Water Gel, Water Jelly Crystals, Clear Spheres and Insta-Snow for GMA Now.

Farmers use hydrogels, like water jelly crystals, mixed in the soil to help with water conservation. The hydrogels absorb a large amount of water that can water plants without the heavy use of sprinkler or watering systems.

4-H members across the country performed the Baby Diaper Hydrogel Experiment for 4-H National Science Day.
