Steve Appears on the Ellen Show Press Release - September 17, 2007
Steve Spangler Appears Sept. 21, 2007 on the
Ellen DeGeneres Show
Local Science Guy will make things pop, smoke and erupt on the show!
DENVER, Sept. 17, 2007 – Nobody has more fun with science than
Steve Spangler! He’s got the credentials as a science author,
teacher, speaker and toy designer, and as the TV science guy on the
9News morning show and 4 O’clock show. But, he remains a big kid at
heart as he shoots potatoes, makes slime and turns an ordinary
bottle of soda into an erupting geyser of fun! And now he’s looking
forward to some science fun with Ellen DeGeneres when he makes an
appearance on her show this week.
Spangler flies into Los Angeles on Thursday to tape the Ellen
DeGeneres Show, which airs on Friday, Sept. 21, at 3 p.m. locally
on 9News. He’s been in touch with the Ellen Show’s producers since
last year when they first expressed interest. In the meantime, the
producers have been watching his weekly videos from 9News
(www.9news.com/spangler) and they asked him to bring several of his
popular experiments including using a fire extinguisher to remove
ink stains and blowing giant smoke rings with trash cans.
“I’ve spent the last week testing out science demos on my
co-workers and friends in hopes of picking just the right ones for
the show,” Spangler said. “But how can you go wrong with
voice-altering gases, erupting potions and flying rings of smoke?”
Visit Steve’s blog (www.SteveSpangler.com) to get a sneak peek of
some of the demos he’s working on for the show.
Spangler joined 9News in 2001 as the science education specialist.
His weekly experiments and science segments are designed to teach
viewers creative ways to make learning fun. His now famous Mentos
Geyser experiment, turning 2-liter bottles of soda into erupting
fountains, became an Internet sensation in September 2005 when
thousands starting posting their own Mentos explosions on
YouTube.com.
On the education side, Spangler started his career as a science
teacher in the Cherry Creek School district for 12 years. Today,
Steve travels extensively training teachers in ways to make
learning more engaging and fun. His hands-on science “boot camps”
and summer institutes for teachers inspire and teach teachers how
to prepare a new generation for an ever-changing work force. Over
the last 15 years, he has also made more than 500 television
appearances as an authority on hands-on science and inquiry-based
learning.
As founder of SteveSpanglerScience.com, Spangler and his design
team have developed more than 140 educational toys and
science-related products. His educational science catalog and
on-line business offers more than 850 educational toys and unique
learning resources. Recently, Spangler has been featured in the
Wall Street Journal, Inc. Magazine and TIME Magazine where on-line
readers voted “Steve Spangler #18 in the Top 100 Most Influential
People of the Year for 2006.”
Spangler also has upcoming appearances scheduled on Unwrapped on
the Food Network (September 24th) and Modern Marvels on the History
Channel (September 25th).
