Do square bubbles really exist? That's the question of the day and the answer is yes… if you know the science secret. Square bubbles are easy to make and serve as a great learning tool as students explore the concepts of soap films and surface tension. We’ll provide all the tools you need to build your own “square bubble creator” and even give you the recipe for our favorite bubble solution. Get ready to amaze your friends! Recommended for children ages 6 and up.
- 8 White connector balls
- 13 Blue connector rods
- 1 graduated pipette
What Does It Teach?
Bubbles form because of the surface tension of water. Normal bubbles enclose the maximum volume of air with the minimum amount of bubble solution. This clever square bubble device will help you create a much smaller minimum surface making it possible to create a cube-shaped bubble. Now that’s a cool lesson in surface tension!

I lead science activities at our annual homeschool conference. I put out a large number of these sets and we started out following the directions. We got our square bubble right away by accident then it became more challenging. The children started creating new shapes with the Zomes and exploring all of the different bubble surfaces they produced, as well as making many more bubbles. (Posted on 4/14/13)
- A square bubble! Review by Joyce Russell
My science club kids love these! I think I've ordered close to 50 during a 2 year period of time, and they are always great. :)Not only do they make great square bubbles, but they also make GREAT big bubbles when the child spins around. (Posted on 3/22/13)
- PRE-kindergarden square bubble use Review by Dawn Elchin
As both a parent and high school physics teacher- I was asked to do a science day for my son's class. The square bubble, trampoline, glove trick, easy solution directions, and tailorable ideas were great as a demonstration. I teach a similar topic to my high school students, but this was perfect for amazing them and hopefully interesting them in science. The PRE-k teacher will be using some of the days activities as part of their science fair this year!!! (Posted on 1/26/13)

What is there to say? Who has seen a square bubble before? I sure hadn't until I did this experiment. The one problem was trying to find a bucket big enough for the bubble solution. (Posted on 9/9/12)
