You won't believe your eyes as you stick these tiny polymer crystals in water. First, they slurp up all the water and grow to the size of an ice cube, but put them in water again and they disappear! Hey, what's going on here? Let's just say that the ice cubes you get in Disappearing Ice aren't your ordinary blocks of water. Recommended for ages 8 and up.
How does it work?
It looks like an ordinary cup of water, but reach in and you'll find a bunch of invisible ice cubes. Disappearing Ice vanishes when submerged in water. They do so because they have an identical index of refraction with the water.
What does it teach?Disappearing Ice offers a unique, hands-on method of introducing young minds to polymers and their properties. Then, it goes a step further by teaching lessons in light and light refraction.
