There is absolutely no way that fish could hatch from dried eggs, let alone in a couple hours! Right? What seems like a complete impossibility is actually a fascinating science experiment. Fish in a Jiff with Bonus Triops features two separate species that can hatch from their own dried eggs through a process called diapause.

First, you receive a coupon for Killifish eggs. Killifish lay their eggs deep in the mud of seasonal ponds that dry up every year. In the absence of water, the Killifish eggs survive through a state of suspended animation called diapause. With the reintroduction of water and light, the Killifish will begin to hatch in as little as two hours. Once you send in your Killifish coupon, you'll receive your eggs in 4-6 weeks.

As a special bonus you will also receive a Triops growing packet. These amazing crustaceans have survived since the Triassic period of prehistory! The Triops eggs are included in your kit along with instructions and food to grow them - that means uou get to start growing your Triops immediately! You'll have plenty of time to hatch and grow these prehistoric marvels while you wait for your Killifish to arrive.

You get to hatch and grow both species in a unique space age growing tank that features a locking observation chamber, thermometer, 5x magnifying lens, and a draining nozzle. The Fish in a Jiff kit also includes limestone to improve water quality through the addition of calcium, maximizing the growth of both species. Once you've grown your Triops and receive your Killifish eggs, it is important that you transfer the Triops to a new tank. Once hatched, the Killifish will eat the Triops. They will not live together peacefully.

How does it work?

Killifish and Triops stay in a state of suspended animation called diapause. Diapause enables survival by these fascinating species during seasonal dry spells, droughts, and more. The reintroduction of water and light to the eggs reanimates the embryos in the eggs, allowing them to hatch and grow!
