Usually ships out the next day.
DOTD Sold-Out
Sometimes you just need a supply of nutrient agar and now you have the source. Agar is pronounced "awger". It sounds like "blogger" without the "bl". Our nutrient agar is made from a seaweed derivitive and also contains a pancreatic gelatin made from beef bi-products to help promote the growth of bacteria. In a recent survey, 4 out of 5 bacteria preferred our nutrient agar over leftovers in your refrigerator. Comes with enough agar to fill 60 small (51 mm) Petri dishes, 30 large (101 mm) Petri dishes, or 20 jumbo (150 mm) Petri Dishes and instructions. Recommended for children ages 6 and up.
What's included?
- 25 grams of Nutrient Agar
- 1 activity guide
Product FAQ
- Is your agar made from seaweed?
Yes and no. By definition agar is a seaweed derivitive. However, our nutrient agar also contains beef nutrients to help facilitate bacteria growth.

works great
kathy wilmovsky - June 7, 2012
This agar works really well. It mixes together easily and, boy, did the bacteria grow! The only negative is that it does have a pretty foul smell when you first cook it up, but it does work great. |

Good method of preparing petri dishes without having time constrictions...I could schedule the experiment on my terms, not shipment dates. |

great stuff
stacy ratel - December 23, 2010
This is perfect for using with my students. When preparing, don't over boil the water, because adding the powder will make your situation overflow, andthe clean up is awfully sticky. (Not that I know this from personal experience or anything...) |

Petri Dishes
Sheri from Colorado - December 7, 2010
We ordered the Petri dish kit for my 5th grader's science project, Who Would You Rather Kiss, Your Mom or Your Dog?. It worked very well and was easy to use. We will definitely order something from your website next year. |
