If there is one thing that's better than having fun with a hands-on science experiment, it's eating the experiment when you're done. With the Rock Candy Crystal Kit, that's exactly what you'll do. By creating a supersaturated sucrose solution and adding a seeded stick (a stick that has been pre-treated with sucrose) to the mix, you'll have full-grown, delicious crystals in just a week!

The Rock Candy Crystal Kit includes pure sucrose, which means your candy crystals will grow larger than the crystals you would get with table sugar and will be fantastically clear. You'll be able to see the detail of every crystal! Mixing instructions are simple and easy to follow and, of course, the results are tasty and 100% edible.

What's included?

  • 15 oz (425 g) of sucrose (contains sucrose and egg whites)
  • 16 oz (473 mL) glass mixing jar with plastic lid
  • Five seeded sticks
  • Instruction and information guide

How does it work?

The Rock Candy Crystal Kit uses principles of crystal formation and sedimentation to form giant sucrose crystals. Included seeded sticks provide the perfect surface on which the crystals can form, and the end result is enormous and delicious sucrose crystals on a stick. They're just like the rock candy you can get at stores!

What does it teach?

With the included instruction and information guide, you'll learn the answers to questions like:
  • What are crystals?
  • What makes crystals grow?
  • What is a super-saturated solution?
  • Why are crystals important to us?
…and more! You can't beat a tasty, hands-on experiment like this.

We had a great time growing these crystals! They grew so well that they attached to the bottom of our jar and we had to chip our candy stick free. This did not deter us from devouring all of our crystals with reckless abandon!

From what I read in the instructions, it should have been easy. I couldnt get the sugar to the right consistency. Other kits I have used were more successful.
