How does it work?
Find a light-colored wall with a nearby light source (like a window or lamp) and hold the prism up to the light. You may have to move it around a little at first to see the rainbow, but once you do, you have created a symphony of color on your wall! What does it teach?
Discover that ordinary light passing through a prism is bent (or refracted) at different angles. As each band leaves the prism at a different angle, you can see all the colors in the spectrum. There are prisms with different angles, but they have different scientific and industrial uses.
Experiment:
Set up a competition! Give your friends a prism and see who can reflect the widest band of color on the wall. Then, turn off the light and see who can remember the order of colors in the spectrum!

Very pleased with the service
Janis L - April 24, 2013
I am more than satisfied with the items I ordered, but what really stands out is the service. I sent the items as a gift to another address; there was a problem with delivery that was not the fault of SteveSpanglerScience, or FedEx. Nevertheless, Spangler customer reps immediately contacted me and worked out a solution with FedEx. It was all the more impressive to me because this was a smalll order and I was a first time customer. |

Prism
Ian - March 10, 2011
We were disappointed in how the prism didn't appear to refract light as we expected. The underside of a CD does a much better job refracting light and it is much less expensive. |
