Ghosts are the masters of trickery and deception, which makes them an intriguing subject. Steve has studied them for years and has made a couple of really cool discoveries. Believe it or not, Steve has collected samples of Ghost Poop and Eggs and charged the Spangler Labs staff with distributing them.
Using what Steve gave us, we've come up with the spine-tingling, hands-on Ghost Science Kit, Disappearing Poop and Vanishing Eggs. With this one-of-a-kind kit, you'll explore the magic and science behind ghosts' poop that disappears when it is mixed with water and ghost eggs that grow and vanish in water.
Just when you think you are done with the phantasmal tricks of the trade, the activity guide will teach you some more secrets that you can do with those eggs and just a few drops of Atomic Glow.
- Jar of starch peanuts
- 50 g of Jelly Marbles
- 4 oz of Atomic Glow
- 1 miniature black light
- Clear 250 mL beaker
How Does It Work?
Well…that's a tricky question. You see, ghosts are very similar to mummies because they will put a curse on you if you give away their secrets. And we don't want that, but let's just say that there are some scientific principles behind their trickery.
What Does It Teach?
Using the fun experiences from disappearing Ghost Poop and vanishing Ghost Eggs, you'll learn valuable scientific principles behind refraction of light, recycling, reusing, and reducing, and glow-in-the-dark materials.
- Great "magic science"! Review by Beverly
I used this as part of my daughter's "magical" 11th birthday party. We had one cup with the marbles covered in water, which just looks like a cup of water, and had people stick their fingers in and be surprised to find something invisible in there. We had another cup with just the marbles in it, and a message underneath the cup that said "Magic is real!" You can't read the message when just the marbles are there, but when you then fill the cup with water, the message magically appears. Even the parents enjoyed this. We didn't even get around to making the "ghost poop" disappear, but that would have been good, too. Also, it didn't say so, but it included a packet of 12 fizzing color tablets. I had also ordered 100 of the tablets, which we called "dragon pills", and used as ingredients in the potions the kids made. We also used the glow liquid as an ingredient, and the instructions indicated that if the potion was made properly, it would glow in the black light. This all contributed to a great party! (The marbles are really cool to just play with, too. Surprise--they bounce!) (Posted on 2/26/15)
- Ghost eggs were a huge hit Review by Sheryl Spears
I've been meaning to write a review about this kit all year. It was definitely the hit this year! My students absolutely loved the ghost eggs. I teach fifth grade and while doing a memory book to capture their fifth grade year this was mentioned as one of their favorite activities of the year. It was so fun to hear that their favorite activity of the year was ghost eggs! Awesome fun that they remember all year long and hopefully for the rest of their lives! Thanks so much! Hope to do this during my summer camp! (Posted on 5/17/14)
