4-H National Science Day

Steve Spangler partnered with 4-H to develop the National Science Experiment so that all kids from schools and youth organizations around the country could explore the wonders of science and have a chance to be scientists for the day. The experiment called Helpful Hydrogels explores the importance of water and water conservation through the use of hydrogel polymers, commonly used in agriculture, erosion control, environmental clean-ups and forestry projects.

4-H is the youth development program of land-grant colleges and universities that shares the latest scientific research and university-based curriculum with urban, suburban, and rural communities across the country. To learn more about 4-H National Youth Science Day, visit www.4-H.org.

You might be wondering why 4-H launched the 4-H National Youth Science Day now? In response to our country’s need for more scientists and engineers, 4-H set a goal of attracting 1 million new youth to the sciences by 2013. The 4-H National Youth Science Day supports this goal and is a springboard for the organization’s new PSA campaign, “One Million New Scientists. One Million New Ideas™”.
