Superconductors - Floating Magnet When a super conductor gets extremely cold, it behaves like a magnet.
print this page

A super conductor is made out of a special combination of rare earth minerals. When it gets extremely cold, the super conductor will exhibit the properties of a magnet.

If you take a neodymium magnet (also made of rare earth materials) and place it over the cold super conductor, it will levitate in the magnetic field.
