Ice Skating Spin

The secrets to an ice skater's spin are revealed.

Ice skaters are not only talented on the ice, but they also have a great understanding of physics as the jump, twist and spin. If you've ever seen seen an ice skater start to spin slowly on the tip of their skate and then speed up into an incredible blur of a spin, the secret is pure science. The best part is that you don't have to be on the ice to test out the science behind the spin. Find an office chair that spins easily and a few weights and you're ready to make yourself dizzy sick. But it's all in the name of science.

Cool!!! My way.

Hey People!!!
I found a fun way to do this for someone who doesn’t have the spinning thing or a desk chair. It is sort of like what Liana O. said. Put on some thick slippery socks and spin by walking in a small circle very fast with your arms out. After a few turns, bring your arms in and lift up one foot. Be careful, because I fell down about 6 times before I mastered this. :) :) :) :)

This ROCKS!!!!!!

We don’t have one of those spinning boards and we have a spinning desk chair. But, I tried spinning with the removable inner ‘sock’ from pair of lined Crocs® and spun, on one foot, on our tile floor in the entry way. I started with my arms out of then pulled them into my body. I picked up speed!!!! Thank you Steve Spangler!!!!!!! :)
