Science Fashion Themed Party For the fashionista in all of us...
For the fashionista in all of us, we’ve combined our favorite science activities that are sure to make you a glamor star! Make your own designer shirts, while learning the chemistry behind the activity or create a stunning beaded bracelet with beads that teach about the power of the sun or design your own fabric pattern using the sun. Get ready for the “prettiest” science party you’ve ever seen.
What should you know about Tie Dye versus Sharpie Pen Science for your Science Fashion Birthday Blow-out? Our Tie Dye Science Kit is one-of-a-kind with special fiber reactive dyes. But, it is more time intensive and messier than our Sharpie Pen Science kit. Consider these factors when choosing which activity is right for you. Or, if you are ready for an all-day, unforgettable, over-the-top fun party try both kits... your party guests will be the most fashionable science students on the block!

Tips and Planning:
When you send out your party information, request that all of your guests RSVP with their T-shirt size. Now, you are ready to head to the craft store for some plain, white t-shirts. If you would prefer not to worry about shirt sizes, we’ve found that medium or large size men’s tees will work for most children and can be shrunk, tied or trimmed to each child’s size once they have completed the activities.
Once the masterpieces are complete, have your guests model their fashions in a birthday party fashion show! Everyone will love showing off their labors of love.
Tie Dye
The day before your big event, you should watch the tie dye kit video, so you are comfortable with the directions before you have to entertain party guests! NOTE: Because of the special nature of the chemicals and dyes, don’t open these items until you are ready to begin the tie dying process.
On the day of your party, carefully follow the directions for setting up the tie dye shortly before your guests are scheduled to arrive. Because of the shelf-life of the chemicals once opened, you will probably want to plan on creating your tie dye masterpieces at the beginning of your party.
Sharpie Pen Science
Before your party fill each dropper bottle with rubbing alcohol and put out a set of sharpie pens for each group. If you are hosting a party for younger children (ages 3-6) a great connection that can be made is with the Purple, Green and Yellow book by Robert Munsch. Read this story to your party-goers while they are making their shirts.
Energy Beads
A great way for lots of little hands to get to the Energy Beads is to pour them all in a big tub or container. Before the party, cut a piece of cord approximately 30 cm (12 in) long for each child. Make sure that it is a clear day because you will need to be outside in the sun for this activity to work.
Blueprints on Fabric
Kids will love making their own wearable photographs that are made with power of the sun! Blueprints on Fabric come with 20 sheets of fabric that can then be sewn on to t-shirts, pillows and more. Try finding lots of interesting shaped objects for your guests to “photograph” and putting each piece in a large tub before the party. Then, guests can dig through the tub and find just the right pieces for their fashionable art! For more info, watch the Blueprints on Fabric video. Like the Energy Beads, you will need to go outside in the sun for this activity to work.
