My Review:

Steve Spangler published his first book, Naked Eggs and Flying Potatoes in 2010 and it was an instant hit for science fans and teachers everywhere. In 2011, his second book, Fire Bubbles and Exploding Toothpaste was published to the delight of his fans.

If you are looking for a book of science experiments to do with your children, Naked Eggs and Fire Bubbles are the perfect books. Each book offers a variety of experiments to do at home or at school with clear instructions, a list of simple materials, and a lesson on the science behind the activity. The experiments are easy to follow with “Let’s Try It,” “What’s Going on Here,” “Real World Applications” and “Take it Further” sections.

Fire Bubbles also offers a special “Teachers Only” section full of science demonstrations for the classroom teacher. And yes, these books make the perfect teacher gift this holiday season.

My favorite part of both books are the color photographs. Who knew science photography could be so captivating and breath-taking?

Here is a short list of experiments available in Naked Eggs:

Naked Eggs and Flying Potatoes Enhanced Ebook Launched for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

We’re excited to announce the official release of our enhanced ebook for Naked Eggs and Flying Potatoes: Unforgettable Experiments That Make Science Fun. The print version of the book (Greenleaf Book Group) is available in book stores throughout the country, and the enhanced ebook version is available through the iTunes Store. While there’s nothing new about ebooks per se, the notion of an enhanced ebook is very new. In fact, it’s so new that our scientifically enhanced version of Naked Eggs and Flying Potatoes is officially the 75th enhanced ebook title ever published. In just a few months, the previous statement will seem so insignificant because there will be hundreds, if not thousands, of titles that flood the market.

Visit the iTunes Store through your iBooks application and search for “Naked Eggs and Flying Potatoes”.

What’s the difference between an ebook and an enhanced ebook?

We think of an ebook as a simple conversion of the written word to a generic electronic reader (Kindle or a Nook, for example). The enhanced version incorporates both images and video. This new enhanced ebook is available through the iTunes Store and is compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Unlike a standard ebook, the enhanced version includes over 200 photos and 37 videos that help the reader to see the WOW FACTOR behind each of the cool science activities.

About the Book

This is not your ordinary book of science experiments. Naked Eggs and Flying Potatoes is a geek-chic look at Steve Spangler’s latest collection of tricks and try-it-at-home activities that reveal the secrets of science in unexpected ways. What makes this book different from other science experiment books is the amazing photography. Over 200 color photographs and 37 videos accompany the step-by-step instructions and simple explanations to uncover the how-to and why for each activity. Make potatoes fly, cornstarch turn into quicksand, and 2-liter bottles of soda explode on command.
